I make many products so there is something special for every type of dog. Some dogs like to get down and dirty every day and some dogs wouldn't think of touching a mud puddle. What I can do is give you a good description of collars that I offer. It's important that you regularly inspect your dog's gear and see that it is in good working condition at all times. The reality of gear is that nothing will last forever! Every piece of equipment has a lifespan and that is going to depend on the materials that the gear is made with, the dog, dog's coat, dog's activities, dog's training, etc.
Fabric/Nylon collars
I make these collars with heavy duty nylon, strong D rings and quality plastic hardware. I use fun fabrics for these collars and there is an option to add a removeable flower or bow tie. These collars are so much fun for an outing to the farmers market, family get togethers, photos and just generally looking cute! These collars are for light duty use and can be washed in a laundry bag on the gentle cycle and lay them flat to dry. Collar accessories like flowers and bow ties should only be hand washed.
Biothane Collars
Biothane collars are only made with brand name biothane that is made in the USA. Biothane is PVC coated nylon and incredibly durable. It's a product that is easy to clean, does not get stinky and is often described as all weather since it's waterproof. I use colored beta 520 style biothane that has a leather feel and flexibility. I use colored heavy beta 520 biothane for 1.5", 1" and 3/4" collars/leashes. I use colored standard beta 520 biothane for 5/8", 1/2" and 3/8" collars/leashes. These collars are for heavy duty use and are very often used as everyday collars, lake collars, swimming collars, hiking collars, camping collars, hunting collars, etc. Since these collars are typically used as everyday collars, they can be personalized with nameplates. Biothane collars over time can harden and develop cracks. This is due to the fact that they are typically used everyday, they can deteriorate in a presence of oils from the dog's coat or from our hands (leashes) and they are subjected to many elements over and over again due to their versatility.
UV Printed Biothane Collars
I also work with UV printed biothane which brings a fun print to the collar with the properties of waterproof biothane. When I make collars from UV Printed biothane, I use standard beta 520 biothane for all widths. (this is different from my regular colored biothane collars)
Leather Collars
I mostly use english bridle leather and waterbuffalo leather. Leather is long lasting and beautiful. I make highly decorated leather collars that are labor intensive and meant to be special occasion collars. Typically when customers purchase leather collars, they consider it an investment and often have a biothane collar for everyday use. Leather collars are strong and made to last, but know that the more decorated it is, the more delicate it is. I typically use 10 oz thick leather for the main part of the collar and use colorful, soft 3oz chap leather for padding the collars. These collars can also be personalized with nameplates.
Making collars is not my full time job. I split my time between our family farm and dog training. This makes certain times of the year very busy for me (spring planting, fall harvest). I try very hard to get orders out in a timely manner, but since collars are made to order, the typical production time of your order can be 5-14 days. If I'm busy farming, production times can be even longer.
I exclusively use USPS to ship my orders.
Stainless steel, solid brass, chrome over brass, black(will fleck over time), rose gold (will tarnish over time), aluminum. If you have a special request for hardware, please contact me before placing your order. Please know that hardware can leave a discoloration on the biothane or leather. I try hard to describe the hardware I use, but if I missed something and you are curious, feel free to reach out and ask questions. please send questions to offleashcollars@gmail.com
